The article explores the animated films of South African artist William Kentridge. Topics discussed include the film's representations of memory, duration, and time, the role and representation of politics in the films of Kentridge, and the work of French philosopher Gilles Deleuze. The characters used by Kentridge in his films including Soho Eckstein and Felix Teitelbaum are also examined.
