- Abstract
The article discusses the history of town hall organs in New Zealand. Wellington had its first town hall organ installed in 1904 followed by Auckland in 1911 with both using a Norman & Beard instrument used for civic ceremonies and performances. In Dunedin, the first town hall organ installed was named "Norma" which gave it 60 years of continued service. In 1927, Christchurch introduced a Hill Norman and Beard organ but it was later sold to a union church when a new hall was built. It was replaced with a new organ built by Rieger Orgelbau of Austria.
