- Title
Rejecting and Perpetuating the Anti-Suburban Tradition: Representations of the Suburbs in The Tax Inspector, Johnno, and Cloudstreet.
- Authors
O'Reilly, Nathanael
- Abstract
The article focuses on the representations of the suburban traditions in Australian literature such as "The Tax Inspector," by Peter Carey, "Johnno," by David Malouf, and "Cloudstreet," by Tim Winton. It comments that Carey departs from the anti-suburban tradition in Australian literature by treating it as one of the most important sites within the Australian experience. Malouf has perpetuated the anti-suburban tradition in Australian literature in his book. Winton depicted the West Australian landscape in "Cloudstreet."
