- Abstract
The modern information society and the ageing society raise the need to clarify issues related to the adoption of information technology (IT) among older people, as well as issues related to motivating older people to communicate through IT. The purpose of the research is to identify motivating factors for the intention to learn IT among older people and the impact of communication through IT on supplementing the social convoy of older people. The research is based on a quantitative research approach, where we collected data from 359 respondents who had experience using the computer and the internet for at least six months, attended a computer course and were over 55 years old. Results of the research confirm the positive attitude for learning IT as the most important motivating factor of the intention to learn and communicate through IT in older people. The support of members of the social convoy of older people and the perception of self-control of older people in this process is also important. Older people reinforce their intention to learn and communicate through IT, if they perceive enough energy to learn, and if they believe that the effort put into the learning process will create the conditions for communication through IT. Understanding the attractiveness of communicating with IT contributes to understanding the motivation of older people to learn and communicate through IT, thereby complementing their social convoy and maintaining their social inclusion.
