- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this article to present three cases highlighting the importance of creativity for the treatment of ectopic eruption of maxillary first permanent molars. The first patient was treated with a fixed palatal arch with a soldered wire extending distally to the impacted molar. The second was treated with a fixed palatal crib, and the last patient was treated using a removable appliance with an active stainless-steel spring. In all situations, the objective was to produce distal movement to either disimpact the molar or regain space. In the first case, the distal force was applied to a button bonded to the occlusal surface of the molar, and in the second case a segment of 0.018 x 0.025-in SS wire with a NiTi spring was used. In the last case, the force was generated by the activation of the spring. In all cases, after 3-4 months, the permanent molar was in a physiologic position and space was fully recovered. CONCLUSION: The cases demonstrate that, with creativity it is possible to apply simple solutions for the treatment of ectopic eruption of maxillary first permanent molars.
