- Abstract
The authors discuss the empowerment of the poor, argue that belief in the powerlessness of the poor to improve their economic conditions inhibits such improvement, and describe the civil-society organization (CSO) Educate Girls Globally (EGG). According to the authors, EGG seeks to empower rural communities to improve government schools. Topics include the difference between active producers and passive consumers, the study and teaching of reading and math, and education reform in Rajasthan, India.
