RECOMMENDATIONS FOR STRENGTHENING URBAN MANAGEMENT EDUCATION AND ICMA/NASPAA COOPERATION.

- Abstract
The article provides an opportunity to spell out the concerns and suggestions of academics and practitioners who had given considerable thought to mechanisms for the strengthening of urban management education. The involvement of all the participants in suggesting and ranking the recommendations resulted in an array of ideas that will be useful in maintaining an ongoing improvement in the quality and professional level of urban management education programs. The process of interchange and communication is a reality. The recommendations offered show the way toward refinements. If a major key in the success of the interchange is the involvement of the practitioner, then that involvement will necessarily be on the practitioner's terms and will require changes in the way in which many public service education programs are managed. But, clearly, the benefits will be enjoyed by the academics that have the means and the opportunity to cooperatively develop professional level urban management education programs.
