- Title
THE FINDINGS AND IMPLICATIONS OF A SURVEY OF STANDARDS AND ACCREDITATION FOR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION.

- Abstract
The adoption of guidelines and standards by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) to improve the quality of educational programs in public administration has produced considerable debate concerning their purpose and use. The debate has intensified during recent months, particularly as NASPAA has begun to explore the alternative of accreditation. To find out where the educational profession of public administration stood on this issue, the author conducted a survey under the auspices of the Institute for Social Sciences Research of the University of California, Los Angeles, California. The survey was conducted during the period of November 1976 through February 1977. The questionnaire was kept brief to assure good response. The respondents were asked to sign the questionnaire with the understanding that the responses would remain confidential. This survey appears at a time when the public administration educational fraternity is undergoing much soul searching and metamorphosis of attitudes about the profession's educational direction. This is reflected in the distribution of responses among the different categories of educational units and personnel, which show much uncertainty and doubt about the courses of action that should be pursued.
