- Abstract
The activity of BRL 25.000, a mixture of amoxycillin trihydrate and potassium clavulanate in a proportion of two parts amoxycillin to one part clavulanic acid has been determined with an agar dilution technique and compared with that of ampicillin and amoxycillin against 570 clinical isolates of β-lactamase producing micro-organisms. Eighty per cent or more of strains of . Haemophilus, and were inhibited at a concentration of 2 mg/1 for and Haemophilus and a concentration of 8 mg/l for and . Variable results were recorded against the spp., spp. and strains with respectively 73, 38 and 27% of these strains inhibited by BRL 25.000 at a concentration of 8 mg/1. In comparison with ampicillin and amoxycillin there was little or no change in the minimal inhibitory concentration of BRL 25.000 against spp., spp., , and spp.
