- Abstract
It is widely recognized that a significant portion of the transportation sector's energy demand is met by fossil fuels. As a result, there has been a notable increase in the electric vehicles' (EVs) number to promote sustainability and address environmental concerns. Shifting the energy source for EVs from fossil fuels to renewables is a critical matter. In this regard, EVs equipped with photovoltaic hold the potential to offer a solution in the future. However, the charging infrastructure for a large fleet of EVs can lead to decreased system efficiency, particularly a reduction in the grid's load factor. This study presents multi-objective optimal energy management model for a charging parking lot that incorporates EVs with photovoltaics. The model is developed using the mixed-integer linear programming. By employing the model, both cost minimization and load factor maximization can be achieved separately or simultaneously, addressing the management needs of the parking lot. The results obtained from the study demonstrate that the proposed model effectively manages the parking lot operations according to the intended objectives. When the objective is solely to reduce costs, the model minimizes expenses. Alternatively, if the objective is to increase the load factor, it can be enhanced from 0.091 to 0.92. Furthermore, when both objectives are pursued simultaneously, a balance can be achieved between cost reduction and load factor optimization, resulting in desired outcomes. For the conducted study, the inclusion of photovoltaic panels on EVs has a 4.5% impact on the overall cost.
