The work responds to the concerns of fish consumers regarding the mercury content in fishes. Mercury intake was estimated on the basis of fish consumption (obtained by a questionnaire survey) among pregnant and lactating women and the chemical analysis of the most frequently consumed freshwater and marine fish. It turns out that none of the interviewed women exceed the tolerable weekly intake.
