- Abstract
The article discusses a study on second victims who are healthcare professionals (HCPs) involved in an unexpected adverse event such as a medical error or a patient-related injury and have become victimized and traumatized by the event. Topics discussed include the Danish Act on Patient Safety, feelings of guilt, anger, frustration, and fear of continued practice among HCPs, and the benefits of second-victim support programmes for medical staffs and patients.
