- Abstract
The work presents a characterization of each one of the processes that are found in the export-type banana supply chain for the Colombian case. This fruit is part of the family basket of the country due to its nutritional value and the impact it has on the directly and indirectly generated employability. The methodology used is proposed by García and others since 2005. The added value and fundamental objective of the article lies in providing a descriptive context of a strategic nature that facilitates the decision-making processes of the different stakeholders of the supply chain, this is detail in the development of the methodological steps of the methodology whose secondary objectives are: to identify the mission of the Supply Chain (SC), to synthetically identify and describe the agents involved, banana products and by-products, to identify the position in the CS of the market agents, makes a description of the CS logistics system, and provides a diagnosis of the CS through the matrix of Weaknesses, Opportunities, Strengths and Threats. The results of the characterization show that in Colombia competitiveness problems persist due to the high transportation costs derived from deficiencies in the road infrastructure, especially the tertiary; monoculture favors the presence of resistant pests and diseases, especially fungi, which produces the productivity and profitability of the crop, so measures must be taken that allow a more sustainable and sustainable cultivation. As opportunities, the need for research for the artisanal or industrial use of the leaf and stem of the plant is evident. The strength of the CS is based on its exporting character and its level of organization that allows it to enjoy a stable market and sustained prices.
