The article presents the discussion on Congress changing the name of the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) to the Army Medical Service (AMEDS) as part of the Army Organization Act of 1950. Topics include Army's paradigm for delivering health service support in combat shifted over time as operational, technological, and medical capabilities changed; and headquarters provided only administrative services to the organization.
