- Abstract
This article aims to promote a process of reflection on the subject of research training in undergraduate students. In a framework of public policies, challenges, tensions and uncertainties that characterize today's world, it is necessary to recognize that even with the changes that are made in the educational field, there are still great challenges to improve higher education. In this sense, educational institutions bear a large part of the responsibility to guarantee quality in the development of their substantive functions and maintain a permanent link with their environment. The training of professionals, regardless of the area of knowledge in question, constitutes a high-level commitment and a highly complex process if it is assumed that, in addition to ensuring solid training for professional performance in a specific disciplinary area, it must direct said training to the achievement of knowledge and the development of transversal skills that are pillars for the graduate to be able to influence the world stage, through timely and relevant actions, in various spheres for the benefit of the conditions of social and planetary life. Thus, quality and relevance are inherent properties of higher education and therefore imply the promotion of reflective, critical, creative thinking both for the generation of knowledge and for the solution of problems. It has been observed that, frequently, students face great difficulties at the moment of the elaboration and development of their research projects, causing on many occasions a restlessness that comes to disadvantage their school performance, their emotional stability, the terminal efficiency of educational programs and, therefore, the meaning and impact of university education for the common good. Research is conceived as an unavoidable training axis if one seeks to transcend institutional borders, even when graduates are not going to dedicate themselves to being researchers. The emphasis is placed on dimensions of analysis, which are constituted in vertices of attention. It is concluded, among other aspects, that there is a precarious preparation for research.
