The author offers insights on a study published within the issue which focused on the language policy for non-native English language-speaking international teaching assistants (ITA). Topics discussed include his personal experiences as a former ITA at Michigan State University, the way the teaching qualifications of some ITA tend to be judged due to their English accent, and the motivation and mindset needed by ITA to improve their English language proficiency.
