- Title
Self-administered cocaine and prefrontal cortical structure and function.
- Abstract
The article reports on the two studies which demonstrate that self-administered cocaine impairs prefrontal cortical function and it accompanied by structural change. These two studies show that there is a cocaine-induced impairment of cognitive function that causes judgment and decision making to become progressively weaker as drug use increases. Moreover, this is an important dimension of pathogenesis that stresses the significance of cognitive intervention as part of effective treatment.
