- Abstract
This article provides the results of an integrative review based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The objective was to investigate the bioethical dilemmas that arise from family planning, according to the literature, from principlism. Searches on the Medline, Lilacs e Scopus databases were conducted to collect data, using the descriptors “family planning and bioethics”. After the application of the eligibility criteria, seven articles published between 2011 and 2018 were selected to compose the study. Bardin’s content analysis was applied to the articles. Four thematic categories were observed: right to freedom and sexual/reproductive autonomy; government interference in family and reproductive planning; sociocultural and religious barriers to family planning; and improvement of technologies for pre-embryo handling. The results suggest that scientific advance is faster than bioethical debates, causing practical and theoretical dilemmas.
