- Title
Book Review: No Real Choice: How Culture and Politics Matter for Reproductive Autonomy by Katrina Kimport.
- Authors
Mann, Emily S.
- Abstract
Whether participants had previously had an abortion or not, some desired to avoid abortion because they anticipated the experience would be negative - physically, emotionally, or because of their ideas about the kind of abortion care they would receive. Kimport advances a vision of reproductive autonomy for vulnerable populations where abortion is truly a choosable pregnancy outcome. Ultimately, Kimport argues that participants' fears about having an abortion, alongside other structural and cultural barriers documented earlier in the book, made abortion unchoosable.
