- Abstract
A recent article in the National Science Review discusses the selective functionalization of C(sp3)–H bonds in unbranched alkanes. The article highlights the challenges of achieving site selectivity with straight-chain substrates and explores a new strategy called "intermolecular radical sampling" to address this issue. The authors describe a terminal-selective C(sp3)–H borylation method using iron photocatalysis and chlorine radicals as a HAT reagent. The method demonstrates excellent terminal selectivity and can be applied to various substrates with straight alkyl chains. The article concludes by suggesting that this concept can be extended to other types of C(sp3)–H functionalization.
