The Death of Henri V: Legitimists without the Bourbons.
- Authors
Simpson, Martin
- Abstract
The article reports on continuing legitimism after the death of Henri Dieudonné de Bourbon, the comte de Chambord and Legitimist Pretender to the French throne, on August 24, 1883. His death cut the French Bourbon line to the monarchy. According to Stéphane Rials, Legitimism of the Bourbons was more of a social phenomenon rather than a political one. It is noted that this type of legitimism did not aim to restore Bourbon monarchy. It is asserted that legitimist ideology was more focused on society and the nature of social relations.
