An essay on the literary style of author Walter Pater. Topics discussed include the efforts of Pater to remain unknown despite the popularity of his writings, the ways in which Pater's writings provide a hint of the difficulties he faced as a gay man during the late 1800s when homosexuality was not acceptable and the ways in which Pater's works encourage discussion about marginalized subjects such as homosexuality.
