- Abstract
At first blush, the trend toward "Talent Management Systems" in lieu of "Learning Management Systems" appears to have the end user in mind; one-stop management of one's career via feature-rich software has appeal. Nonetheless, truly user-centric approaches focus on enabling self-directed learners to find and access learning resources--the element that is most in need of management--not on managing faceless talent. Refocusing the LMS industry on core content management capabilities that haven't been realized reliably, such as sharability, searchability, and maintainability, can benefit the industry by placing the end user's core needs at the forefront of learning management again.
