- Abstract
The coronavirus pandemic has brought enormous challenges to the world economy. The world of work has been hit hard. Whether with the loss of jobs and income, or the massive introduction of remote work, or the exposure to contagion risk situations, workers from all over the planet suffer the effects of COVID-19, restrictive policies and economic downturn. This article seeks to reflect on the relations between the world of work and the COVID-19 pandemic. In this sense, we analyze the impacts of the pandemic on workers, especially those who are in the informal sector, and the governmental actions created to reduce the impact of the crisis on work. Finally, we bring the discussion about the creation of a universal basic income as a policy not only to face the coronavirus crisis, but also as an alternative to the reality of flexible labour relations and massive vulnerability of the working class.
