- Abstract
The alternative press in Brazil has always explored the use of visual resources, not only as an aesthetic strategy, but fundamentally because of the political potential of its various expressions of language. The newspaper Brasil Agora, which circulated in our country during the first half of the 1990s, used these resources intensively, mostly cartoons and caricatures. This article aims to analyze the presence of caricature in the newspaper Brasil Agora as an intertextual discursive element in the context of news production analysis of political and economic conditions of Brazil in the late twentieth century. Therefore, it was necessary to delimit the concept alternative press and caricatures, as well as to present a picture of the communicative experience of the newspaper, in order to identify the persuasive power of caricatures, especially the humor in the processes of mediation of political criticism.
