- Abstract
Diversity of psycho-social problems in a technologically developed era, calls for solutions, right out of the hands of specialists, in order to reduce those situations that endanger the social balance. Lately in Romania more and more families have given their children free access to the PC. Beside the psycho-cognitive development opportunities this also had amplified the risk factors regarding the welfare of the family and the child. This article aims to emphasize the issues regarding the misuse of computer by young people through analyzing the psycho-sociofamilial particularities. The semi-structured interviews were later analysed by computer-aided qualitative data analysis package (Atlas.ti). Following ground theory model, three main categories emerged: reflexion of reality in the virtual world, influence of the parental model, and minimizing the risk and resistance to change. The subjects included students aged 15-17 enrolled in upper-secondary school. They were divided into two groups: those having a high interest on computer games and use them improperly and those using computer games rarely. Research conclusions points out the great danger in leaving young people to use unsupervised computer games and the negative effects associated with addictive behavior.
