- Title
CHAPTER 12: Intimate Exposure: Solo Women Performing in Post-apartheid South Africa.
- Authors
Baxter, Veronica
- Abstract
This essay explores the work by South African solo women performers in monopolylogues or monodramas through the lens of Bystrom and Nuttall's "intimate exposure." In addition, the essay considers these works from the point of view of post-apartheid testimony and memory, and the evolving aesthetic choices made by theatre practitioners. The solo women's performances studied here comprise What the Water Gave Me, At Her Feet, Shwele Bawo!, Mother to Mother, and I Turned Away and She Was Gone.
