- Title
ENDOLUMINAL TREATMENT OF VARICOSE VEINS.
- Authors
Peden, Eric
- Abstract
The article discusses the endoluminal treatment of chronic venous insufficiencies which include varicosities in both the superficial venous system and the perforator veins. It is stated that venous insufficiency treatments have changed to minimally invasive ablation techniques with endoluminal techniques, including radiofrequency ablation, laser ablation and sclerotherapy, rather than the removal of the diseased veins. It notes that with ultrasound guidance, radiofrequency and laser procedures use energy to access the vein percutaneously, while sclerotherapy uses a short catheter. It also describes how these techniques are applied in the types of venous insufficiencies and the treatment results.
