- Abstract
Four episodes of collective meals - two in Carthage, two in Latium- are described in the Virgilian poem. Their common feature is the inclusion of one or more discursive instances showing in their own way a sapiential tone. The comparative study of the characteristics of the meetings, the players involved and the nature and content of the speeches issued allows us to propose that they function as narrative strategies to build a cultural identity that reproduces the parameters set out in Anchises' prolepsis and Jupiter and Juno' s final pact.
