- Title
Det norske Veritas introduces Quality Management principles for ship management and operation.
- Abstract
Following some years of study into the causes of maritime accidents, some 80 per cent of which are related to human error, Det Norske Veritas presented to its Nordic Technical Committee on 27 March 1990 tentative rules for management of safe ship operation and pollution prevention. These are now being considered, and after any necessary amendment, will be put into effect in May 1990. In designing the rules, generally accepted principles of quality management have been incorporated, to comply with those common in manufacturing industry.
