- Abstract
The article discusses a large-scale chemical genetic approach for systematically linking gene expression profiles with compounds and phenotypes suitable for basic and applied biomedical research. It is called connectivity map, which uses gene expression signatures to link small molecules to each other and to diseases. This can be used to discover novel inhibitors of known drug targets and small molecules that correlate negatively with gene expression profiles of complex diseases.
