The article presents information about a study which has revealed that the process of RNA interference (RNAi) can be used for the prevention of vaginal transmission of herpes simplex virus-2 infection. RNAi denotes gene silencing mediated by single- or double-stranded RNA. Mucosal surfaces are an ideal target for RNAi.
