- Title
Proteomics takes stem cell analyses to another level.

- Abstract
The article cites a study finding that proteomic analysis of post-translational modifications illuminates the system-wide properties of stem cell differentiation. Using conventional immunoblotting technology, researchers established that human mesenchymal stem (hMS) cells exposed to two distinct growth factors--epidermal growth factor (EGF) and platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF)-- show differential patterns of tyrosine phosphorylation (pTyr). The mass spectrometry approach clearly provides a powerful tool for the biologist seeking to deepen our understanding of cellular processes and in particular the molecular basis of stem cell differentiation.
