- Abstract
An essay is presented whcih discusses the views of French philosopher Jean-Louis Schefer on cinematic civilization. It states that the philosopher reminds viewers that film theory will only be applicable by interrogating concrete examples for their systematic ramifications. The author also analyzes Schefer's books "The Ordinary Man of Chinema" and "On the World and the Movement of Images" which focus on the central themes of the theory.
