8 Weeks Pilates Training Effects on Fetuin-A Levels and Anthropometric Indicators in Sedentary Overweight Women.

- Abstract
Background: Emerging evidences suggest that Fetuin-A, represents an important factor in the pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome. Also Pilates Exercise Training is one of the new training methods that seem to be effective on reducing Weight and body fat. However, the effects of exercise on Fetuin-A are still largely unknown from many aspects. So, the aim of the present study is to investigate the 8 weeks Pilates training effects on Fetuin-A levels and anthropometric indicators in sedentary overweight women. Materials and Methods: Thirty sedentary overweight women (BMI > 25 kg/nr), aged 35 to 45years-oId were divided into two groups: control (n = 15), exercise (n = 15). Anthropometric parameters and Fetuin-A levels were measured at the baseline and end of the study. Results: Significant improvements in body weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), and Percent Body Fat (PBF) were seen in exercise group. The most changes of Fetuin-A levels were seen in exercise group. Fetuin-A levels in training group significantly decreased, but in the control group did not change. Fetuin-A levels did not correlate with Anthropometric parameters at any measurement time. Conclusion: The present study results suggest that Pilates exercise reduces the body fat leading to reduced Fetuin-A levels. Therefore, Pilates exercise had a significant positive effect on Fetuin-A concentration.
