Shackled.
- Authors
NIKIFORUK, ANDREW
- Abstract
The article focuses on the arguments of Catholic theologian Ivan Illich regarding energy consumption and equity in the society. It mentions that energy consumption became an economic and political shackle which enriches the powerful and enslaves the poor. Illich argues that limitation on energy spending is the way for people to keep humanity, value for labour and respect justice. It adds that the tendency of societies with high-energy spending to become authoritarian reflects power abuse.
