- Authors
Wagner, Charles S.
- Abstract
The article discusses the untold history of the waste water treatment system in Jefferson County, Alabama from 1972-2009. It notes that the county did not have an authority to maintain a sanitary sewer system until 1901 when the legislatures passed a local act that requires a construction of a Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTP) and trunk lines for various municipalities to connect in order to eradicate pollution in county streams. It mentions the 1972 Clean Water Act (CWA) that establishes national standards under the authority of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in controlling the water pollution in the country.
