- Authors
Kesner-Škreb, Marina
- Abstract
The article offers information about the European Union (EU) Customs Union, a union established in 1958 by the Treaty of Rome as an essential element in the functioning the single market in Europe. It says that the single market can only function properly when there is a common application of external tariff on all goods entering the union. The Customs Union allows the EU to negotiate as a single entity in international trade deals such as with the World Trade Organization (WTO).
