- Abstract
The article describes the influence of the late Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Mao Zedong on the Chinese popular culture. It notes that the Communist Party uses his image to promote nationalism and retains Maoist ideology. Also, workers and farmers invoke his ideas and photographs to support their claims of rights on street protests and demonstrations. His image is used to sell commercial items across China, and as a religious icon, his portraits appear in temples and used in religious practices to fend misfortunes and attract wealth.
