- Abstract
A biography is presented for the 19th-century English female author Ménie Muriel Dowie. Focus is given to her public persona as a travelling celebrity and an example of modern femininity. Various periods of Dowie's life are discussed including her early years, her fame as an adult, and her marriage and divorce to journalist Henry Norman. Also addressed are her 1890s novels "Gallia" and "A Girl in the Karpathians."
