- Authors
RAND, THOMAS
- Abstract
The article examines the readers' perception of the word "Maleldil" as a vaguely threatening word in the novel "Out of the Silent Planet," by C.S. Lewis. Topics covered include explanation given by Lewis on the etymology of the word, phonetic similarity of the Latin word "mal" and "malus" in the name "Maleldil," and role of medieval cosmology in Lewis' series of reversals of point of view and habitual patterns of thought that can be found in his space trilogy.
