The article discusses various definitions of sociology of literature in the context of Science Fiction (SF). It is treated as a paraliterary genre and the reasons behind the development of SF readership from a particular section of society are discussed. The impact of social development in the 20th century on the evolution of SF and paraliterature as a whole is also analyzed.
