- Title
Teaching Flexibly With Leveled Texts: More Power for Your Reading Block.
- Authors
Glasswell, Kathryn; Ford, Michael P.
- Abstract
The article focuses on leveling systems in elementary schools, including Reading Recovery, Benchmark texts, and Lexiles. The authors argue that reading teachers can be flexible with text levels and assign books of different reading levels to readers in order to accelerate growth in below-level readers. The article addresses how reading teachers can use leveled reading in shared reading, guided reading, and independent reading. Reading teachers are encouraged to supply a variety of texts with varying degrees of difficulty, use individualized instructional formats, and integrate the use of alternative texts.
