- Abstract
Thus, lessons learned so far from the genetic studies focusing on endometriosis and SLE suggest that apart from the biological and genetic complexity of these diseases, a remarkable molecular overlap is appeared between these diseases, as well. Furthermore, chronic endometriosis-related pain and disability, or other endometriosis-associated clinical manifestations, such as infertility and sexual dysfunction, have been suggested as factors triggering the onset of SLE. The authors nicely showed that patients with endometriosis were at increased risk of SLE compared to unaffected controls.
