- Title
PLATONIC LOVE: SOME LEXICO GRAPHICAL CURIOSITIES.
- Authors
Gooch, Paul W.
- Abstract
This article presents information about Platonic love. The gap between what one may call the common understanding of Platonic love and its philosophical meaning has been recognized by lexicographers, but not always with clarity. In fact, some definitions are as curious as the phenomenon itself is sometimes supposed to be. The two essential features of Platonic love are: that it is pure, having no sexual component, and that it is between members of the opposite sex. Definitions displaying the virtue of brevity state that this is love which is purely spiritual, or devoid of sensual feeling.
