- Title
CAMPION AND ROSSETER: THE ASCRIPTION OF A BOOKE OF AYRES.
- Authors
Lindley, David
- Abstract
The article states that in 1601 Philip Rosseter published "A Booke of Ayres." In the dedication he claimed that his friend Thomas Campion had been pleased "to grant me the impression" of some of his songs "to which I have added an equal number of mine owned." No one has seriously questioned that Campion wrote both words arid music of the first twenty-one songs, but early editors wished to claim for him also the words of the songs in the second part of the Booke, leaving the music only as Rosseter's contribution.
