- Abstract
The article focuses on the present state of music education in the U.S. There had been an increase in attention paid to the National Standards for Music Education and standards-based teaching since 1994, when the present set of standards was established. According to the author, the performance-based music teachers lack respect for the National Standards. It is stated that the decline in music performance activity has been all but ignored by the music education profession. It is commented that music education has not evolved to fit the changes in the society.
