- Title
Akram Khan's DESH: Tales of Fluidity and Resistance beyond Britain and Bangladesh.
- Authors
Jorge Diego Sánchez
- Abstract
This paper studies how Akram Khan moves back and forth to Bangladeshi colonial history and its consequences to come to terms with the doubts, struggles and challenges that he finds when trying to define his identity as a British man of Bangladeshi roots. Grounded in the metaphorical fluidity and resistance that natural elements provide for dance, Khan illustrates his identity and family conflicts moving back and forth to Bangladesh to face his family roots so that he can find his own routes as a British man who combines elements from both cultures as a new language that searches and illustrates its own corporeal and dancing identity.
