- Abstract
The article "Old vs. New World: Which media formats will shape future German lessons?" discusses the question of which media formats will influence future German lessons. According to a study, people spend almost five hours on their mobile phones daily, with most of the time being spent on social media, photo, and video apps. Short formats such as web videos on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, or YouTube are gaining increasing importance. This poses a challenge for German teachers to decide which media should be addressed in class. It is also discussed that new media can offer aesthetic innovation, political enlightenment, and investigative journalism. The question is raised whether German lessons should maintain the "old world" of television and cinema or integrate the "new world" of digital media.
