THE EFFECT OF UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE ON THE SEARCH PROCESS.

- Abstract
The article examines the impact of unemployment insurance (UI) on the search process or search strategy of two groups of unemployed individuals. The two groups of unemployed individuals are those currently receiving UI benefits and those who though not currently eligible for UI benefits might expect to receive such benefits during future spells of unemployment. The data suggest that while differences in the value of UI benefits change the nature and job search extent but current recipients, differences in the expected value of future UI benefits appear to have no effect on job search by those not currently receiving such benefits.
